Facebook Partners With Fact-checking Organizations
For taking an action on viral ‘Fake News’, Facebook has finally began to take action against it with collaborating with fact-checking organizations. After Donald Trump’s victory, according to Facebook, the new question of ‘viral fake news’ may have contributed a huge part.
To reduce this fake activity Facebook has implemented third parties’ modules. When any user shares a post on their timeline the Facebook’s third party modules will be checking the fact of the story behind the post. Once the story or post has been approved by the module, then only it will be posted on the timeline, otherwise, it may be banned on Facebook timeline. For taking their first step, Facebook is working with Snopes, ABC News, Politifact and FactChecking.org, who have agreed to abide by a common set of principles.
This Is How It Works.
Once, the user posts on his/her timeline or page, the fact checking module will be checking the story with their collaborated partners. If the story is flagged by more than two organizations, then user will see a banner under the article if it appears in the news feed. The banner reads: ‘Disputed by 3rd Party Fact Checkers.’
Facebook also have plans to penalize to those who are posting such kind of fake news. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg also commented on this:
A few weeks ago, I outlined some projects we’re working on to build a more informed community and fight misinformation.
We hope the fake news which goes viral now a days, may be get cought before it spreads into the world. By doing this, the giant social network Facebook is contributing its part among the world social network. But due to over-crowded user-base, it is tough for Facebook to stop the fake news, before it goes viral.
